The month of April is always an exciting time of the year here in the Alpujarra. The Summer teases us with reminders of what’s to come, yet the nights hold onto their mild winter temperatures. The plants spring with life and begin to grow as tall as children. Among them, we celebrated our 100th day of school! Each day a new counting stick is added, eventually making groups of “tens”; how grown up we feel when we can see how each day counted as something greater than ourselves. A ten groups of ten now make a large bundle in the “hundreds” cup, as we begin our journey back up from zero with the knowledge and wisdom of our 100 days together.

Starting on day 101, we began the “Teacher Helper” ritual. Following alphabetical order, each

child now takes the reins of the morning and afternoon circle time routines which includes leading meditation, counting and writing the number of children and other various jobs throughout the day. The Teacher’s Helper list is posted on the refrigerator for everyone’s reference. We had a great time celebrating Liam’s 5th turn around the sun, and Kevin shared some baby photos on his birthday as well. This Tuesday we wish Jahnu and his family well as they leave Proyecto Espiral; we are grateful to have had the opportunity to make happy memories together once again.
